A study conducted recently indicates employers are starting to offer more incentives to their employees for particpating in "wellness" programs. The incentives have gone to minor perks to signfificant cash bonuses.
The survey included 372 companies ranging in size from tiny independent businesses to major corporations. Some of the incentives described including gift cards, money-per-pound lost and reductions in annual health insurance premiums.
A distinct trend arose in the survey: weight loss. Many of these companies associated weight loss with increased wellness and therefore reduced health care costs to both the organization and the employee. So weight loss was the pimary driver of increased incentives.
While many people who have become overweight have some hope to lose weight, it takes more than just a base desire. Some people need a support group. Some people need a mentor. Companies are hoping incentives in the workplace will hope finally get people off the couch and on to that stationary bike.
The more fundmental changes you make to your habits, the more likely you'll be able to utilize and earn the increased incentives offered by an increasing number of employers. Sometimes those habits are just a matter of developoing more disciplined eating habits, including portion control and incorporating healthier foods. But you can also integrate specific healthful items into your life to increase your weight loss as well as your overal health. Green tea is an excellent example.
Extensive and continued research promotes and corroborates the healthful benefits of drinking significant amount of green tea everyday. However, some of the research implies that you must drink quite a bit of that tasty green tea. One way to help supplement your consumption of this healtful drink is to also take green tea pills, which concentrate many of the properties of several cups of tea into a single easy-to-take pill.
Whichever way you choose to proceed, I encourage you to take advantage of any incentives your employer may offer. It is a win/win situation for both you and your employer. You save your company money which in turn makes it more likely it will survive and keep your job around, and you improve your own health while also earning some nice little bonuses.
